Can a woman get pregnant while breast-feeding?

In the first six months after giving birth to a child, a

breast-feeding woman is protected from getting

pregnant to a large extent. However, that requires that

the woman breast-feeds the child intensively (the child

suckles frequently and receives breast ilk only) and

that her menstrual cycle has not yet started again.

If a woman starts to menstruate again or if the child

receives any food other than breast milk, the woman

can get pregnant again.

She is therefore advised to use

family planing in order to avoid having another

too soon.
